An excellent way to protect your investment in your trip is through Texas Travel insurance. When purchasing travel insurance, it is important to decide what your priorities are. Here are some considerations; trip cancellation, flight cancellations and delays, outfitter/airline default, terrorism, medical expense reimbursement, etc. Trip cost and travelers’ age will determine Travel insurance rates. Generally, trip insurance will cost approximately 10% of the trip price with higher rates applying to older applicants and lower rates applying to younger applicants.
Some of the main reasons to purchase travel insurance are related to health, work schedule, trip interruptions especially for hard to get to destinations (charter flights, etc.), and also concerns about outfitter or airline default.
Purchase travel insurance if you want to protect your investment from:
You think you might have to cancel your trip because of your health or an immediate family member’s possible illness or death.
You think you might need to cancel your trip because of work related reasons. (Note: sometimes there is an optional coverage for this with an additional charge.)
You might want to be able to cancel your trip for any reason at all. (Note: Usually this is an optional coverage with an additional charge and may only reimburse at fifty percent.)
Outlined below are the basics of Texas travel insurance. We encourage you to ask the insurer questions and/or read the fine print so that there are no surprises about what is covered in your policy and what the reimbursement rates are. Additionally, claim forms must be submitted for reimbursement and often require documentation from booking agent, airline, outfitter, employer, physician, etc.
Travel insurance usually covers:

Trip Interruption as outlined in policy
