Sonia Ashford, the “Medicare Insurance Lady”, is a wife of over 37 years, a mother of 6, a grandmother of 9, and a Medicare sales expert having spent more than 14 years as a sales leader in the Medicare insurance field. She has also conducted countless New to Medicare Seminars and Local Neighborhood Medicare Meetings throughout North Texas Dallas Fort Worth area.

Originally licensed in Texas in 2005, John Ashford is considered a Bedford Texas Independent Insurance Agent, being able to offer Medicare supplements and Part D Prescription Drug plans from multiple Texas insurance carriers. 

Sarah began working in the healthcare industry in 2001, where she worked for many years with elderly Alzheimer and Dementia patients. From there she worked as a Group Benefits Administrator with a local healthcare company in the Human Resource Department for a period of 10 years. Since then, she has decided to work in the Medicare insurance industry full time and has joined the family business, Ashford Insurance, as a Medicare Insurance Agent.

Upon completing a tour in the US Air Force (196-1970) and a career in the Railroad Industry as a Switchman, Brakeman, Conductor, Fireman, and Locomotive Engineer (1971-2006) I felt the desire to follow in my father’s footsteps and enter the Medicare insurance industry.

Medicare Eligibility

 

Generally, Medicare is available for people age 65 or older, younger people with disabilities and people with End Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or transplant). Medicare has two parts, Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medicare Insurance). You are eligible for premium-free Part A if you are age 65 or older and you or your spouse worked and paid Medicare taxes for at least 10 years. You can get Part A at age 65 without having to pay premiums if:

  • You are receiving retirement benefits from Social Security or the Railroad Retirement Board.
  • You are eligible to receive Social Security or Railroad benefits but you have not yet filed for them.
  • You or your spouse had Medicare-covered government employment.
